Capturing Frank Gehry's The Grand Over Three Years

Over three and a half years, I had the privilege of documenting the construction of Frank Gehry’s "The Grand" in downtown Los Angeles. As an industrial photographer and licensed drone pilot, this journey became a powerful exploration of endurance, creativity, and architectural evolution.

Starting with a hole in the ground, I arrived equipped with my DJI Mavic 3 Cine, Phase One IQ4 150 Digital back, and two Sony A7R IVs. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, I maintained weekly visits, capturing each stage of transformation. Navigating the site, timing my shots, and witnessing the growth firsthand deepened my connection to this masterpiece.

Meeting Frank Gehry was a personal highlight, offering valuable insights into the project’s soul. The combination of detailed shots from the Phase One IQ4 and sweeping aerials from the Mavic 3 Cine captured both the intricate design and the massive scale of the site.

The completed series of images tells the story of resilience, artistry, and human ingenuity. This project exemplifies my passion for industrial and construction photography, blending versatility and technical expertise.
